Hey quilty friends! Welcome to my blog! I’m so glad you here.
I’ll start off by telling you a little bit about me and my quilty journey.
I’m Sylvia a quilter, designer and lover of pretty fabric. I come from a very crafty and artistic family. My great grandma and grandma were seamstresses and my mom has been sewing since she was basically a toddler and has a degree in Fashion Design. I credit her with my love of making things. She taught me how to sew, knit, embroider and so many other things. I’m positive there is nothing she can’t make! Quilting was the one thing my mom had not tried and mastered, but I was always drawn to it. Lucky for me, my husbands grandma, Grandma Jean, is an old school quilter (like she hand pieces and hand quilts ALL her quilts). After asking her so many times, she finally taught me the basics of quilting back in 2013 when I was pregnant with my son, Sebastian. I instantly fell in love and haven’t looked back since! Grandma Jean jokes that the “student has surpassed the teacher” every time I show her a new quilt I made.
This is my very first quilt that I made (with Grandma Jeans help)! It was based off a quilt that I saw on Amy Sinibaldi’s blog. I used a mix of 30s fabric and other prints and used chambray as the boarder and backing. I hand embroidered vintage embroidery patterns of animals and took the time to hand quilt the entire quilt.
After immersing myself in the quilting world, I discovered Camille Roskelley and her book Simply Retro. This is another one of my earlier quilts, Framed, and the first of many from that book. This was also the first throw size quilt I made and machine quilted (on my tiny basic Singer sewing machine). It wasn’t easy, so you can see I did very minimal quilting! This book really introduced me to different fabric and fabric collections as well as more modern and updated patterns.
Fast forward to now, and I’m probably even more in love with quilting than when I started. And I’m happy to say that my piecing has gotten so much better! Along the way, I developed an obsession with fabric and hope to design my own collection one day!
Here I’ll share my favorite tools, tutorials, giveaways, and projects I’m working on. I hope you’ll visit again soon, thanks for stopping by!
happy quilting,
Sylvia
