Lava Blooms Quilt

Today is the day! I’m beyond excited to release my very first quilt pattern, Lava Blooms!

Lava Blooms is a fresh, geometric pattern featuring 3 of my favorite blocks, the Economy Block, Half-Square Triangles and Flying Geese. The pattern includes 3 sizes, baby, throw, and twin and instructions for a scrappy fat quarter friendly version. Get your copy here.

I made the throw size using AGF Pure Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics in Sienna Brick, Miami Sunset, Ocean Fog, Mediterraneo, Aurora Red, and Sweet Macademia as the background fabric. The backing is from Maureen Cracknell’s Autumn Vibes collection for Art Gallery Fabrics.

The amazing quilting is credited to Brooke Becker of Lady Belle Fabric. She helped me decide on the Garden Trellis panto and I don’t think there could have been a more perfect choice!

I was struggling to come up with a name for this pattern after designing it, so naturally, I asked my dinosaur obsessed 6-year-old son what he thinks of when he looks at the pattern. He came up with the name ‘Lava Blooms’ and I kind of love it. The name made me think of what happens after a volcano erupts and destroys everything around it, after some time, new life starts to bloom. I felt like that was the perfect analogy for the year we just had. Despite everything 2020 brought, we can still emerge and grow from it.

Meet the Testers

Being new to the quilt pattern designing process, I was nervous about finding the right testers, but I couldn’t have asked for a better group of kind and talented ladies! Their honest feeback has been invaluable to making this a successful pattern. I love how different each version is and how their fabric choices really make the pattern shine. Jen Levin @jenlevin pulled fabric from her stash that she’s been waiting to use on the perfect project! She made this cheerful throw size using the Rosa collection by Crystal Manning for Moda Fabrics and I love it so much!

Jennifer Cannon of @piperautumndesigns made this beautiful scrappy throw size using AGF denim as the backround fabric. She has kits for this version and 2 others (including one with Homebody) available in her shop!

Sara Marie Gardner @saralucillehandmade made this lovely baby size version using a combination of wovens and quilting cotton. I love Sara’s style and the soft colors really give this quilt a classic feel.

Celena Hsiung @madebycelena made this gorgeous colorful throw size Lava Blooms quilt in all Art Gallery Fabrics. I love how she added her own variation by adding this beautiful floral print in the center of the blocks!

Christine @modernstitch_ made this bold and vibrant baby size using all Kona Cotton Solids. I love how Christine’s fearless use of color made for such a fun quilt!

Becky Murray @beckymurray0824 made this lovely scrappy throw size using the Bloomington Collection by Lella Boutique. The florals and colors in these prints really made for a lovely spring inspired quilt!

Candice Shaw @candicrafts made this monochromatic throw size using all Pure Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics. The blues are so serene, perfect to relax with on a rainy day.

Erin of @lovesewmodern made this scrappy baby size using all different pinks, it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day! She will be hand quilting this one and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Sarah McFarland @sewmuchsarah tackled the twin size! I love that she added fussy cut mermaids to the middle of the blocks and added a different orange print to each Economy Block.
