Ida Jean Quilt

It's Ida Jean Release Day!

I’m so excited to be sharing this pattern with you! Ida Jean is a block-based pattern that was inspired by and named after my Grandma Jean. She taught me how to quilt when I was pregnant with my son and helped me make my first quilt – his baby quilt. I quickly fell in love with the craft (as you can see) and I loved having this in common with her. Some of my favorite memories were visiting her and chatting about what we were making, going through her fabric stash and heading to quilt shops and quilt shows together. She was an avid quilter who loved 1930s reproduction fabrics and hand pieced/hand quilted everything. Grandma Jean passed away last January, and I truly miss having her around and showing her what quilting project I’ve been working on. I thought designing this pattern and naming it after her would be a sweet homage to her.

The pattern includes 3 sizes, baby, throw, and twin, plus and alternate layout! It uses strip piecing for construction which makes this pattern so fast to put together and would make a great weekend project or last minute gift. You can recolor your own on Quiltink along with my other patterns!

I hope you enjoy making this pattern as much as I have!

The cover quilt is the throw size using AGF Pure Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics in Dried Carrot, Apricot Crepe, Peach Sherbet, White Linen, and Lemon Tart. The backing is Lillian’s Secret Garden from the Her & History Collection by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics. Lamb and Loom Fabrics has kits available for this version in their shop!

The quilting was done by Emily Siddal of Brown Eyed Quilter. Emily helped me choose the Peak Blooms panto and love how the design ties into the blooms in the backing fabric.

Kristin Quinn Creative and I worked together to choose the fabric for this Fableism Arcade Wovens version and she kits available in her shop! This is the throw size in the alternate layout. I love how soft and dreamy this one turned out. To add to the coziness, I’m planning to back it using a Fableism Sprout Woven fabric.

Meet the Testers

My testers did not disappoint! I love how different each one turned out and how each tester made this pattern their own. These are sure to give you lots of inspiration and show you all the possibilities with the Ida Jean quilt pattern!

Julie @sewingarts knocked my socks off with her version! She calls it “The Queen” and I’m obsessed. I love the fussy cut block centers and the high contrast colors. She will have kits in her shop!

Elaine2

Elaine @createjoyquilt truly never dissapoints with her fabric choices! She also fussy cut the block centers and added an extra color fabric in the corners that’s alternated throughout the quilt top.

Erin @modernquiltlab made this baby size with a holiday color theme. The darker background really makes that focal fabric stand out!

Becky @beckymurrayquilts also went with a festive Christmas version in the baby size. How cute are those little snowmen?!

Stephanie @theparttimequilter made this cute jungle safari themed version in the baby size. Those little meerkats are so adorable!

Amy Ida Jean

Amy @amyjohnstonrobertson made a scrappy baby size version! I love how her eclectic fabric choices make the pattern look completely different.
